Wolves Look To Sell Griffiths In January

Wolves boss Stale Solbakken has warned Hibs there will be no extension to striker Leigh Griffith's loan deal which will expire on the 19th of January.

Having netted 13 goals in 14 SPL games, Griffiths form won him a call up to the national squad for last weeks international friendly against Luxembourg, making his debut as a second half substitute.

Despite his impressive form Solbakken has no interest in retaining the player he sees as surplus to requirements at Molineux despite the Midlanders sitting in a disappointing 16th spot in the English Championship.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, the Norwegian offered Hibs hope of keeping the player as he refuted recent rumours linking Griffiths with a move to Ipswich or Celtic by claiming there had been no interest from any other team.

He said 'We will try and get some money out of it. It would be stupid otherwise as he`s out of contract at the end of the season.

'When someone wants something maybe they will get a Christmas gift. So you never know what will happen.

'We will see. But at the moment I don`t know of any other interest in him.'

It's widely believed Wolves would settle for a deal of around £150,00 for the 22 year old lifelong Hibee, whether or not Hibernian can afford such a fee in the current economic climate may be crucial if the player is to turn his loan deal permanent.

it's as baffling for us too ... a proven goalscorer, of which we are in dire need... and expecting only a paltry 150k, when we are sitting on over £20mil residual from the sale of our best players ... the mind boggles

It baffles me, too, Admant, but, everyone knows that because I have been banging on about his goal-scoring exploits for ages. I suspect that Griffiths has fallen foul of SS in the same way as he did with MM and both saw him as a disruptive influence. Indeed, an altercation between Griffiths and SS did occur in the summer and that probably decided the issue. Had it not occurred, I suspect SS would have taken a more lenient view of a player who subsequently has been scoring at better than par per game. Surely, it's a mark of a good manager that he can cope with sparky individuals like Griffiths and get them to focus their energies productively on the pitch. And, this is what seems to be happening at Hibs. I am not sure that Griffiths wants to come back but SS should be big enough to give him the opportunity to prove himself in the Champioship. Goodness knows, we could benefit from the presence of a striker who knows where the net is ... and he would be an even greater asset after Christmas if our current situation fails to improve. If we do sell him, surely he is worth more than £150,000? If that is all we are going to get for him in January, we might as well try him out until the end of the year. It could work. After all, we are putting a lot of faith on the returning Cassidy and the callow Siggy.

I'm not surprised AdMant, Griffiths has been on fire and while there's some question marks over his attitude, it's improved greatly this season. He's causing teams problems with his movement and while being far from his best on Saturday still netted. A personality clash with Solbakken perhaps? Sparky would get 20 goals a season on this form in the Championship. It could be his slight build that puts potential suitors off as well but the guy can score for fun. Hopefully Wolves loss is Hibs gain.

I totally agree SB... and 3 mil for siggy but only 150k for Leigh..?? Stale said we already "have his type of player" eh ?? have i forgotten to take my tablets or something ... word is that Leigh has been addressing his attitude as well, we all make mistakes, and if we have a bloke who's making amends already on the books why not try him out ... what do we have to lose? all pretty bizarre.
AdMant
Hib7 - no word of a lie there, and the youngster is indeed a die-hard Hibs fan ... so it would appear a holistic solution I guess, but it would leave many of us wondering why we've spent 3 mil on someone who with all due respects doesnt look like scoring, when we have Leigh who's banging em in... perhaps we'll never know. All the best for the rest of the season whatever the outcome.
