'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Doyle Looks For Final Swansong

Irish striker Eoin Doyle is hoping his midweek brace against Kilmarnock has given manager Pat Fenlon food for thought as he ponders his team selection for next Sunday's Scottish Cup Final against champions Celtic.

Doyle has already announced he'll be leaving the club this summer to join English League Two outfit Chesterfield but hopes to end his time at Easter Road on a high by playing a role in Hibs finally winning the cup and finally ending the nightmare of 12 months ago when the Leith outfit were dumped by rivals Hearts in the final of the same competition.

Doyle told The Evening Herald 'There couldn't be a better way for me to finish at the club, we all know the cup history.

'There will be a massive turnout from the fans at Hampden and I can assure them the lads won't let themselves down the way we did last year.

'The Kilmarnock game was a big game for the players who haven't been involved lately. There are 16 places up for grabs for the final and we'd Wednesday and Saturday to make sure we're part of it.

'Whether or not it'll get me involved, I don't know. You'd have to ask the manager, he knows what he gets from me.

'I always give him my all and the fact the final will be my last game will give it something else again. If I do get the nod, there certainly won't be any shortage of effort.'

Following last season's disastrous finale manager and fellow Irishman Pat Fenlon has re-shaped the Hibs squad, so much so that only 4 survivors from that day are in line for a place in the squad.

The striker added 'There have been a lot of changes in the dressing room, but for those of us who were here last year, the final's always in the back of our minds.

'It wasn't a nice day and it wasn't a nice summer after it. That memory will be a factor this time. We know we owe the fans a lot. Everyone knows it's been over 100 years since we won the cup, it might as well be a million.'
