Murray Calm Over Speculation

Ian Murray has distanced himself from reports linking him with a return to Hibs as Terry Butcher's replacement.

The 33 year old lifelong Hibee is currently the favourite to take the helm at Easter Road following last week's dismissal of former England captain, Butcher.

However, in an interview with BBC Scotland, Murray has told the broadcaster assumptions being made by the media of a straightforward return are wide of the mark.

He said : 'People think, a bit disrespectfully to myself and Dumbarton, that I would automatically jump at the chance.'

'Of course it's an attractive job but you also have to think about long-term ambitions and where you want to go.

'Any player growing up wants to play for the club they support - and I managed to do that.

'I know I'm going to be labelled because I'm ex-Hibs, but it's not a closed book case.'

Murray did acknowledge the task ahead for any new man is going to be a tough ask after Hibs slid into the Championship after a run of only 1 win in the equivalent of a half season of football.

He admitted 'The job is massive for whoever takes over. There is a complete revamp required.'

Murray is believed to be one name on a list of up to 40 candidates currently under consideration by CEO Leeann Dempster.

Former St Mirren gaffer Danny Lennon has expressed an interest in the post whilst John Collins has also been linked with an unlikely return.
