Hibs Close To Stokes Deal?

Hibs Close To Stokes Deal?

Hibs are close to sealing a deal for Scottish Cup winning legend Anthony Stokes according to a report in the The Scottish Sun.

Following a match winning performance for the Hibees in the 2016 Cup victory over Rangers during a loan spell from Celtic, Stokes was a victim of Brendan Rodgers cull after his arrival at Parkhead and he departed for Blackburn Rovers.

Stokes' period at Ewood Park however has been blighted by loss of form, injury and recently personal issues have kept him from helping his side battle relegation from the Championship where another former Hibee, Tony Mowbray is in charge having taken over from Owen Coyle earlier this year with the latter having lasted barely six months at the Lancashire club.

His possible return to Easter Road comes on the back of a successful promotion campaign which will see Hibs return to the Scottish Premiership next season and boss Neil Lennon is targeting top quality enhancements to his playing staff having been linked with Shaun Maloney earlier this week alongside current loanee Efe Ambrose whom he hopes to tie to a permanent deal over the summer.

Mowbray is certain to allow the striker to depart Rovers on a free transfer in order to rebuild his own squad after a gut wrenching relegation to League One which was settled only by goal difference on the final day of the season.

Lennon and Stokes were both players together at Celtic Park and the Irish international had arguably his best spell in the Hoops after his appointment as manager.

Talks between the Hibs boss and Stokes are said to have already taken place and with limited interest from elsewhere the 28 year old could be set for a spectacular return to the capital.
