McGregor Praises Youngster For Ibrox Display
Darren McGregor has been singing the praises of Ryan Porteous following the 19 year old's performance during the 2-1 victory over Rangers but hopes to oust the Scotland youth from the starting line up for this weekend's clash against second place Aberdeen.
Porteous, named in the Scottish under 19 squad for a double header against Denmark and Austria later this month, was a stand out at Ibrox leading to praise from his defensive counterpart who missed the match through injury.
"Ryan came in and was maybe too good. He might have stolen my position!" McGregor told the Scottish Sun.
"For an 18-year-old, and to be put into that environment for his first competitive league start, to handle it the way he did was exemplary.
"He acquitted himself unbelievably well and showed maturity beyond his years. It`s great and it keeps me on my toes."
Despite missing the highly charged 90 minutes in Govan the Hibees stalwart hopes to be fit for this Saturday's Premiership tie with the Dons and having suffered a 4-1 reversal when the teams last met, McGregor hopes Hibs can settle the score on home turf but acknowledges it'll take an excellent team performance to take maximum points.
"We know Aberdeen`s going to be a tough game and we know they`ve given us a tough ride so we`ll be looking to beat them.
"It was one of those days in the 4-1 defeat but they played well and caught us cold, and made an example of us.
"We need to use that feeling we had after the game, or me at half-time cause I got hooked, as motivation because they do seem to be getting one over on us.
"It would be great to win but we know it will be a hard game. They have good players, similar to ourselves in most positions, so it will be an interesting game."
