Stubbs On Oxford Shortlist?

Stubbs On Oxford Shortlist?

Hibs Scottish Cup winning manager Alan Stubbs is on the shortlist to take over as Oxford United manager following the dismissal of Pep Clotet last month.

United currently sit 13th in League One although they had hoped to push for a play off spot under the Spaniard's tenure which lasted barely six months.

Respected Scottish journalist Alan Nixon claimed on Twitter The U's had interviewed the Hibees legend as they seek to get their season back on track.

Stubbs has admitted his move to Rotherham following the Cup success was an ill advised choice however he remains keen to get back into management despite the disappointment of his spell in South Yorkshire.

Frequently spotted on BT Sports excellent coverage of Scottish Football, the Liverpudlian may not be the first choice of many Yellows supporters based on his short time at The New York Stadium however his two years at Easter Road should be used as a yardstick for any curious Oxford fans looking in.

His spell in Edinburgh coincided with Hibs being at one of the lowest points in their history following a relegation from the top flight yet Stubbs was to leave on the crest of a wave.

Yes, he failed to gain the promotion everyone connected with the club hoped for but he was up against two of the strongest challengers the Championship had likely ever seen in the shape of Hearts and Rangers and but for an atrocious display of refereeing from Alan Muir, Hibees may well have been celebrating regaining Premiership status alongside securing the Scottish Cup for the first time in 114 years.

During his two year tenure he'd built a squad of genuine quality, defeating the likes of Aberdeen, Dundee United, Hearts and Inverness as Hibs competed in three League & Scottish Cup semi finals which earned two Cup final places with only a cruel Liam Fontaine own goal robbing his side of the possibility of a Cup double.

Wherever Alan Stubbs ends up Hibs fans will wish him well. A nicer man you won't meet but the persona hides a driven personality who, given the right support, has all the tools to be a success at any club.
